For those who are looking to buy a new double bass in Singapore, I have put together this simple list of local shops as a starting point.
This is not meant to be an exhaustive review, but rather a practical reference for students, parents, and bassists who are beginning their search.
Where available, the links below will take you to each shop’s website or online catalogue.
As double bass stock can change, it is always advisable to call or email the shop directly before making a trip.
Before Buying a Double Bass
For newer players in particular, I would strongly encourage trying the instrument in person where possible.
A double bass may appear suitable in photos, but in practice the instrument setup, ease of playing, response, and tone can vary quite a bit from one instrument to another.
A bass that is poorly set up can make learning unnecessarily difficult, especially for a beginner.
Before visiting a shop, it may be helpful to ask:
whether there are currently any double basses in stock
what sizes are available for the models that is within your budget
whether the instrument has already been set up and adjusted for playing
whether accessories such as bow, bag, or rosin are included in the package
whether you may try more than one instrument across the price ranges before deciding

A Final Note
Choosing a double bass is not simply a matter of price or appearance.
The right instrument should feel comfortable to play, respond well under the hand, and support the student’s development rather than hinder it. A bass that is poorly set up can make learning unnecessarily difficult, especially for a beginner.
If you are uncertain about what to choose, it is often worth bringing along a teacher or a more experienced bassist when trying instruments.
A careful decision at the start can save a great deal of frustration later on.
I hope this list gives you a helpful place to begin.
