My Approach

White on Black.png

Every student arrives with a different combination of goals, challenges, strengths, and experiences.

Some need help overcoming a specific technical obstacle. Others are preparing for auditions, examinations, performances, or orchestra commitments. Some simply want clarity on what to focus on next.

Regardless of the situation, my role is to identify what is limiting progress and provide practical guidance that helps students move forward with greater confidence and understanding.

The following principles guide all consultations, coaching sessions, and lessons.

Build Strong Foundations

Many musical challenges can be traced back to underlying technical habits.

Posture, balance, bow control, intonation, and sound production form the foundation upon which all future development is built.

Rather than relying on quick fixes, I focus on helping students develop efficient and sustainable habits that support long-term growth.

Understand the Cause, Not Just the Symptom

Students often focus on the visible problem:

• A missed note

• Poor tone quality

• An uncomfortable technique

• Difficulty learning repertoire

However, these symptoms are often caused by deeper issues.

My approach is to identify the root causes behind a challenge so that improvements are meaningful and lasting rather than temporary.

Develop Independent Musicians

The goal of education is not dependence.

Students should gradually develop the ability to observe their own playing, solve problems independently, and practise with purpose.

Whether a student studies for a few sessions or many years, success is measured not only by what happens during lessons, but by what they are able to achieve on their own afterwards.
