About the Studio
Why MyDoubleBass Studio Was Founded
My Double Bass was founded with a simple belief:
that good teaching should develop not just technique, but understanding.
With more than 20 years of teaching experience across double bass and cello, the studio focuses on building strong musical foundations, technical awareness, and independent learning skills in students of different backgrounds.
Students have included:
• National Youth Orchestra musicians
• School orchestra musicians
• Beginners discovering the instrument for the first time
• Adult learners returning to music
• Students preparing for graded examinations
• Learners developing ensemble skills
Rather than focusing only on short-term results, the studio emphasises long-term musical development — helping students become confident, thinking musicians who can continue learning beyond weekly lessons.
Lessons are structured around three core principles:
Foundation
Developing reliable technique, posture, tone production, and score reading skills.
Understanding
Helping students recognise patterns, musical structure, and problem-solving strategies instead of relying purely on memorisation.
Independence
Encouraging students to take ownership of their learning so they can practise effectively and make informed musical decisions.
This approach is especially valuable for students involved in school orchestras and ensemble settings, where musical awareness and preparation skills are essential.
Teaching Approach
Experience Highlights
• 20+ years teaching double bass and cello
• Experience teaching students from beginner to advanced levels
• Students achieving distinctions in graded music examinations
• Experience preparing students for school ensemble participation
• Experience working with both youth and adult learners
• Focus on technical foundations and long-term development
Not every student aims to become a professional musician.
But every student deserves teaching that is thoughtful, structured, and respectful of their potential.
My Double Bass aims to provide a learning environment where students develop not only playing ability, but also discipline, curiosity, and musical understanding — skills that remain valuable whether music remains a lifelong pursuit or a personal enrichment journey.
Studio Philosophy
Why Choose MyDoubleBass Studio
At MyDoubleBass Studio, we believe meaningful musical progress comes from a strong partnership between teacher, student, and parents. Our lessons are best suited for students who are curious, committed, and willing to put in consistent effort in their learning journey.
Structured and Individualised Learning
Every student follows a structured learning path tailored to their level, goals, and pace. Whether preparing for school orchestra, examinations, or personal development, lessons are carefully planned to ensure steady and measurable progress.
Specialised Double Bass Instruction
As a niche instrument, the double bass requires focused technical guidance. Students benefit from specialist instruction that builds strong fundamentals, efficient practice habits, and proper technique from the beginning.
Developing Independent Learners
Beyond weekly lessons, students are guided on how to practise effectively, helping them develop discipline, responsibility, and independence — skills essential for long-term musical success.
Supportive Learning Environment
We aim to create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.
A Studio Culture Built on Commitment
We work best with families who value consistency, regular practice, and long-term development. When students are supported both during lessons and at home, they achieve the most rewarding progress.
Who Lessons Are Best Suited For
Students who:
• Are willing to practise regularly
• Want to improve their playing seriously
• Participate in school/external orchestra
• Are preparing for SYF or exams
• Enjoy musical challenges
Parents who:
• Support regular practice habits
• Value structured learning
• Believe in long-term skill development
• Want their child to develop discipline through music
We believe the best results come when motivated students, supportive parents, and structured teaching work together.
